In the film and television drama "Ji Gong's Travels", there is a scene where:
The elder asked Duke Ji how to bring about a relationship.
Master Jigong smiled and said, "One pot of wine, two pieces of meat, three meals, nine bowls of Congee, it's OK!"
Although most people dismiss this scene with a smile, in fact, the words of Master Jigong contain profound Buddhist teachings.
Let's imagine, although Jigong drinks and eats meat, can he tell the elders that he drinks and eats meat every day and has a good life?
Of course, it is impossible, so when Master Jigong said this sentence, there was actually a Zen intention behind it.
As Shengzhong said before, what Master Jigong said about "one pot of wine, two pieces of meat, three meals and nine bowls of Congee" is actually "constant peace and happiness wherever you live". Everything goes according to circumstances, which means what you should do.
Because Jigong drinks alcohol and eats meat, he does this every day. He hangs a pot of wine around his waist, holds a chicken leg in his hand, takes a bite of meat, and then drinks with the chicken leg. He eats three meals a day and drinks three bowls of Congee for each meal, which adds up to nine bowls of Congee.
We see that what Ji Gong said is a common occurrence, a daily routine, and a natural habit. Therefore, this sentence means doing what should be done every day.
I have said before that enlightenment is actually very simple. When you understand that a person lives for nothing, but only eats and sleeps, eating and sleeping, you will not be far from enlightenment.
When we simplify everything, we are actually not far from the truth. Real life is about doing what you should do, not worrying about anything that has already happened, nor worrying about things that have not yet arrived. Live in the present, live well in the present, and cherish the present.
